Unlike the original film poster for ‘Kids’ the alternate poster is a lot more simple. The film being called a wake up call can make anyone want to watch it because it is clear there is an element of reality and drama that we need and something many could relate to (it was and still is a very current issue this film focused on that many directors wouldn’t go in to). There is quotes on the film poster saying its a “wake up call” and “two thumbs up”, these are making the audience want to watch the film. It shows teenagers being in denial about STI’s, showing the lack of care for their health and the consequences of the actions they make. This film is has a sad element to it and is in a few ways a dark film because it is all about teenagers having sex and using drugs and the risks that come with that. To me it looks quite dark for being on a street in America, its got very blue undertones and blue is a colour of sadness. There is also somewhat low key lighting within this film poster. You can see them with skateboards wearing a typical streetwear look from the 90’s. You can see their body language and their dress sense which can tell the audience a little about them. There is a long shot image of the characters in the film walking down the street. This film poster is a lot more simple compared to the 21st century film posters. The ‘Kids’ original film poster (being the first picture) is a 20th century coming of age movie made in 1995. All of these conventions of the film posters were used to promote the film and make the target audience (or the public in general) want to watch the film and make it appeal to them. The Pineapple Express film posters have slogans, they all have text (the text giving a little information about the film making you want to watch it) there is also images on the posters which is showing the audience the characters in the film or things related to the film. They have the title of the movie in plain sight – making it apparent the name of the film is an important thing.
These film posters all have the typical key conventions of a film poster.
